270 Sati
Sati is the process of a woman burning herself at her husband's cremation ceremony, a form of self-sacrifice practiced in Hindu culture as a manifestation of loyalty and devotion. Twenty-five days after the death of Tawang Alun, King of the White Tiger kingdom in Banyuwangi, a cremation ceremony was held. This ceremony was accompanied by a Sati procession, in which 270 of Tawang Alun's 400 wives burned themselves in the fire.
Based on the record from the White Tiger legend at the site of Prabu Tawang Alun's resting place in Gombolirang village, Tawang Alun's ashes were placed in Malecutan forest. In this painting, the cremation ceremony is depicted as taking place in the kingdom of the White Tigers.
